ABOUT SONGS FOR SLIM
SLIM DUNLAP - Record Store Day Release 2015
Slim Dunlap is best known for being lead guitarist of the Replacements (1987-1991) but his musical pedigree runs far beyond. He’s been in countless bands, has been an in-demand guitarist on the Minneapolis scene for four decades as well as touring extensively with his own combo.
Uncommonly original, the songs on his two critically acclaimed solo albums (The Old New Me / Times Like This) run the gamut from rockers to ballads to eccentric and they’re loaded with heart.
Tragically, Slim suffered a severe stroke in February of 2012 that has left him partially paralyzed, unable to swallow and very frail. He will require around the clock care for the rest of his life. All proceeds from the sales of this package will go to the Slim Dunlap Fund to help with his medical expenses.
New West is proud to release both of Slim Dunlap's solo albums (originally released in ’93 and ’96 respectively) on vinyl for the first time as a deluxe, double set for Record Store Day 2015. Pick a copy up at your favorite indie record shop while supplies last!
- All proceeds go to the Slim Dunlap Fund
- Includes a Slim guitar pick, custom 45 adapter, and poster
- This is the first time on vinyl for both albums (previously only available on CD & digitally)
- Liner notes by Brien Lilja, Slim’s longtime drummer
What is Songs For Slim?
Songs For Slim is a non-profit project, originally established to raise money for Slim by having various artists cover his songs. In 2013 a series of records were auctioned through eBay; a 5-song ten-inch EP by The Replacements followed by eight 7-inch 45s by a variety of other artists (see Releases tab). The Replacements EP was also later released commercially as twelve-inch 45.
